well, i like the general idea, but im still saying that adding fishing rod is just unhandy... it's best to have a normal water path, and when you get pokemon on red hp, you can catch it with pokebol, but only if you have bought a rod of certain lvl in shop. So for example: You buy lvl 1 rod in shop for $5000, and than you go on water path, and you get magikarp on red hp, and you use pokeball on him, and it's yours, but you can't catch goldeen this way until you have lvl 2 rod(for example). Also, some water pokemons will need special water spots(for example, you can't put goldeen in grass -.-, but you could put it in some kind of pond or smthing). Also, in water paths, you could put water pokemons on water tiles, but there will have to be some Rock tiles, for pokemons that can't get into the water(sometling like you have in mt moon 1,where there is middle rock tile on which you can only put rock type pokemons) I totally agree with you. If fishing would be added to the game, I think this absolutely is the best way to do it.

I love the idea of buying a certain level rod for different water pokemon!

So, this is maybe a builded up version of what i first thinked of: So, to own certain lvl of rod, you have to get rod of lower lvl first(this way, new lvl rods can appear in same box in pokemart, so it will take less place), and first rod you will get in some kind of chalange Sam will think of(notice, this will be lvl 1 rod, and you can't get any better before you get that one via challange)

Why is everyone saying they want it for free? You should have to work hard for it(unless you think the first rod should be for free, and the rest in the pokemart). GUESS WHAT. Sam is adding fishing!

It may be a good idea not to add a fishing level specifically, but rather to have a stream/river on certain levels off to the side where it is inconsequential whether you deal with them or not, but you can if you choose [and have a fishing rod].

Sometimes you gotta stop thinking about the droids you're looking for, and love the ones you have.

Did anyone read the update guide? It said that there's a new challenge level, where you "try to grab the old rod before time runs out". Anyone think that beating the level could give you the rod?

Yes, I believe on the blog it says the beating the level will reward the rod. I could be mistaken though.

Well, nice idea of getting rod via challange, but maybe there should be higher lvl rods available in shop. What do ya say?

First post here, yay for being the new guy! There are 2 ways I can see this working, one being to make the rods place-able like the pokemon. You could place it in one of the boxes, and it would make a pokemon catch-able for a period of time: better rods last longer and possibly hold the pokemon in place. The downside would be the targeting: it would catch the first water-type pokemon it could, possibly ignoring the one you really wanted. The other way is to make rods like the pokeball tool: you see a pokemon you want to catch, so you drag and drop onto it. Then for a specified length of time, the pokemon is catch-able: better rods last longer and possibly hold it in place. The downside for this one being that 1) it could be abused, though that problem can be solved by making it so only one pokemon can be 'hooked' at a time. 2) switching between the rod and the ball would get troublesome after a time. Overall, I guess I like the current mechanic, where simply owning the rod allows you to catch certain types of water pokemon. But I would still like to see something that's more fun to play with: imagine the Kyogre level if you could hook it and force it to stop for a time! Granted you can do this with a bite attack: but for hilarity's sake, hooking the legendary whale-thing would be better. Oh wait: as far as actual fishing LEVELS go, I'd like it if they had their own mode outside of both the story mode and the challenge mode. A separate Fishing mode would be nice: various locations from the story, like the ocean by Pallet Town, A small lake inside Mt. Moon (which isn't there in the original, but should be there since poliwag can be found there) and a river between Mt. Moon and Cerulean City - possibly the one between Cerulean and Bill's house. There should be others later on in the game, like the SS Ann, but those should wait until the story mode can run through those places first.
