Well... we... (ironic...) thought it would be good to discuss the forum-changes with each other. This (karma) was one of the things many people wanted to see reinstalled, but we wanted to install it the "safest" way possible... (since last time it got abused ). We do not mean to sound like dictators (at least I don't ).

Well, idk a thing bout this system, but it seems interesting. Well i got a suggestion about this "Karma" thing: what if players could influence on someones karma. how? well, i have no idea how it worked before, but i guess normal members were able to change their(or someone elses) karma by their will. what i suggest is to add "Respect" and "Disrespect" buttons. This way members can affect someones karma.
If player get's certain amount of "Respect"-s(or "Disrespect"-s), his karma will raise(fall). This way, players can "say" what they mean of certain member, and won't have such a great influence in karma changes(note, if admin thinks someone doesn't deserve karma raise, they can bring it back to number they think it's apropriate). Also, it should be made in way noone knows who pressed "Respect" and who pressed "Disrespect" button.
Also, member will be able to "Respect"("Disrespect") only once a day(so no "Respect"-ing someone 1000 times, just because he has made 5 posts).
And if not added to normal karma, than there should be "Player's karma" which will be changable by other members but admins...

I like the idea. But..ouch, only 1 "respect" or "disrespect" a day? It would make sense to only be able to do that to someone once a day but imo there shouldn't be a limit that low for "respecting" or "disrespecting" anyone. (Also disrespect probably isn't the right word for this, or respect. You should show all people respect.)
But to be honest, I don't exactly like this new system better, sure it's a lot less abusive, but mods can't be everywhere at every time and I think the people of the community should be able to give karma and not just mods and admins. If someone abuses the system they could get warned and their rights to use the system provoked or something. (If the last thing is possible)

Allowing members to add/subtract to karma was troublesome because of trolls creating multiple accounts (avoiding the exalt/spite limit) and changing people's karma. It was too much for the admins/mods to effectively monitor and undo.
However, a second "player's karma" number isn't a bad idea.

Unluckily... that what you describe is not possible on ProBoards These annoying little forums are incompatible with ALOT of features other forums have (I <3 ZetaBoards). This was the "safest" way to have a karma system available on the forums

OK, you got it alllll wrong(i hope this isnt double-posting lol). Sir Wobbuffet, you don't get 1 respect/disrespect point per day in total, but from one person(so, each member can click respect/disrespect). And ok, maybe those aren't best words, but i kind of did write this in a short time lol. @p0kd...(dude change your name, no offence), people wouldn't be able to directly change someones karma, but that would be decided by the number of respects/disrespects- it would be controled by admins too(so if admins notice people like someone, they will raise his/her karma, this way it is actualy more fair than when it all goes on subjective thinking of one admin, ho might be hooked up with someone, and lowers that someones karma on purpose), but yeah, i think "Players karma" is better solutio to that. OK, saw MMaester's post just now... so how about you make a board, where people vote for one of 10 people who were nominated(by admins) to be the most helpful THAT WEEK(so there would be polls only once a week), and players would ofc comment on who they chose and why.

Got one question in the way of discusion... Why do we have this lame version of forum, and is there any way to change this lame version into some nice one?

Someone would have to go out of their way, pay the money to host a new site, and the community would have to start over. And why? Just so we can have a better karma system? The boards here are fine

We use this lame forum, because the original creator of the forum (MrSmith), created it. I'm not really going to make a new one, since we have the whole community on here. If you are referring to "lame lay-out", yes you can change it. Go to your profile, modify profile, go to "select skin" and choose Dark. That looks much nicer imho than the plain whiteness.

I never said it's easy, i just ASKED if there is a way to get better forum, coz this forum is ok, but i do think some option that other better version of forum would be helpfull(notice, this is not only thing that is unable on forum because it's Proboards). Also, you could comment on the last version of my suggestion(which is mutch more important than bashing me about how things in real world cost money, like im some idiot that doesn't know that)...
Yeah, but let's face it, normal skin is ok, other 2 are making me cry(not that they are ugly, but they just cause pain to my eyes, no offence...)

On topic though, is there a system or method to how karma is awarded, or do Mods/Admins just award karma however they want however they see fit?

Only admins/mods can give karma.
