I a Vulpix in the corners using Fire SPin, with Beedrill in the center throwing down string shots.
Using this set, one vulpix will work if it catches magikarp with fire spin as soon as it spawns in order for it to get to red right as it gets to rare candies. If you use another Vulpix with fire spin in the bottom corner also with fire spin, your guaranteed to get it to red no problemo.
Takes a few tries if you get unlucky with the spawn timing but it works really well.

I put raichu in the middle with lightning ball, two raticates with scary face up front to slow things down and then 2 beedrills with fury attack to actually catch the MagiKarp. Works like a charm.

The pokemon in the middle ignores him because (I think) the pokemon target slow pokemon first. magikarp is fast, so the middle pokemon always has a slower pokemon to target. I used poison powder as well and it worked great.

Sometimes you gotta stop thinking about the droids you're looking for, and love the ones you have.

I thought they just targeted the pokemon in order that they get in range, because my pokemon target the Onix in mm2 when it arrives before the slower Zubats and Geodudes. Anyway, I used 4 Ivysaurs on the sides, and a Poliwag in the middle with doubleslap. My method relied on switching the moves on the Ivysaurs and removing them quickly. I let one of them use tackle on it, then removed the Ivys that were in range so the Poliwag could use Doubleslap.

I'm not exactly sure. I think it targets the first pokemon that gets in its range, and then the next pokemon it targets is the slowest currently in its range.
Or perhaps it just always targets the most recent pokemon to enter its range.

tactics smactics... u dont need em... just use golem/graveler with rock blast or clafairy/clefable with doubleslap or other atacks like these that have multible hits and take hp slowly

Doubleslap et. al. don't always work with a weak pokemon. Sometimes it only takes 2 hits to faint, and it never goes into red.

You must have Weak pokemons , so they can damage only 1/7 life - 6 hits and magikarp is yours!
