Best place would be route 2, and it would take days, its a 1/10000 chance. Also if i remember right maths predicts only 37% of people will find it before the first 10,000 .... So ... have fun

nah its definitely less than 1/10000 that was probably just for pikachu, i have a shiny rattata and a shiny butterfree and i caught them without really looking for them.

I am pretty sure it is. but Butterfree and Rattata are MUCH more common than Pikachu. So far a lot of people have a Shiny Metapod/Butterfree/Kakuna/Beedrill and it is because they are EXTREMELY common in VF2. VF2 has 150 pokemon each round. just under half which is either Metapod or Kakuna. It makes much more sense that they are common while Pikachu isn't

About how many times do you need to go through before seeing a shiny?

Depends on your luck. You might see one in your next map, or you might see it after you have played the same map for 2 hours straight.

No it not 1/10000 for all pokemon
the rate of a shiny to appear in this game is 1/1000 then you must factor in the rate of appearance for the pokemon (non shiny pork) when you figure that out you do the math and end up with how many of that pokemon must appear for your chances of one
since pikachu appearance rate i believe is .1 and it has 1/1000 chance for a shiny, it ends up around 1/10000
