Hello guys! I think I have the best way to beat the Challenge to get a Old Rod, pay attention on pictures. If not working right with you, try a few more times, or try to adapt the way you may be able to beat it. Ok, you need to use Pokemon that appear level 9, and with them trying to cross the other side and grab the old rod and back without dying. First put Geodude With Defense Curl. When he is almost attacked by Pikachu, place Pidgey on the field. After this place Jiglypuff with Defence Curl on Field. After you Put Jiglypuff, Place one after the other: Pikachu, Charmander. And at that moment, make sure you change the Geodude's attack before he dies for "Mud-Sport". Be sure to put Clefairy in that exact moment in the photo using "Follow Me " After That Pikachu will attack Clefairy, so your Pidgey can Pass, and you will win the challenge and get a Old Rod! In Version 2.6 you can only Use Old Rod at Cerulean Gym, and capture a Magikarp! Is available too a Shiny Magikarp! Pictures Uploaded with imageshack.usHope this helps, post here if you liked or disliked my guide. Thanks

You can replace the same pokemon (Geodude) until your energy runs out, thats what I did
But you can't have 2 of the same on the field, so i practically spammed Geodudes and Pidgeys and got the Old Rod

One more thing. Would you mind adding a spoiler? It's kind of lengthy to scroll through. Thanks

*EDIT* Done! I have a question: Why can't put a image without a link, like on imageshack or something...
**Don't double post.**
