I recently caught a shiny metapod, but it doesn't gain any exp. I played 3 games with him now and he hasn't gained any exp at all.
So, is this a bug or what?

try to put him infront other pokemon, and he must use his string shot attack, he needs to kill something by himself, OR damage a pokemon that will later get kill what map are you playying? and are you sure your metapod is damaging the enemy? or is he just using harden? do what we all do to train that kind of pokemon, place him to use string shot, and behind him place a strong pokemon that will kill the pokemons affected by his stringshot attack if it keeps happening let me know /:

Yea, I got him to gain exp. and now have a shiny Butterfree. I failed to realize the pokemon had to die in order for him to get exp.
I feel like an idiot now, but thanks for the response.

Many people didn't know that, especially when Abra and Magikarp came out. So don't feel like a idiot

Yea, Abra gets experience from teleporting. But the pokemon it teleported away because of has to die to get exp. The same with Magikarp's splash
